Who we are

motdata.uk is operated by Will Palmer (“we”, “us”, “our”). We are the data controller for any personal data processed through this website.

What data we collect

Vehicle registration lookups

When you use our MOT check feature, you enter a vehicle registration number. We send this to the DVSA MOT History API to retrieve test results. We do not store registration numbers or the results returned. The lookup is processed in real time and not logged.

Registration numbers may constitute personal data under UK GDPR as they can identify a vehicle's registered keeper. Our legal basis for processing this data is legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR) — providing you with the information you requested.

Analytics

We may use privacy-focused analytics (such as Vercel Analytics or Google Analytics) to understand how visitors use this site. This may collect:

  • Pages visited and time spent
  • Referring website
  • Device type, browser, and operating system
  • Approximate location (country/city level, not precise)

Where analytics use cookies, we process this data under consent (Article 6(1)(a)) via our cookie banner. Where analytics are cookie-free and fully anonymised, our legal basis is legitimate interest.

Server logs

Our hosting provider (Vercel) may automatically collect IP addresses, request timestamps, and URLs in server logs for security and performance purposes. These logs are retained for a limited period and are not used to identify individuals.

What we do NOT collect

  • We do not require you to create an account
  • We do not collect names, email addresses, or payment information
  • We do not store vehicle registration numbers or MOT results
  • We do not sell or share personal data with third parties for marketing
